Priority 05 · Direction under development

Whenua

Responsible guardianship of land, water and resources.

Why this matters

The wellbeing of people and the wellbeing of the whenua are inseparable. MOREHU PARTY supports long-term stewardship that protects taonga, respects local knowledge and enables responsible prosperity.

Our starting principles

The direction
we believe in.

01

Clean water and healthy places

Protect the quality of waterways, land and neighbourhoods on which communities depend.

02

Long-term stewardship

Judge resource decisions by their effects on future generations as well as today’s needs.

03

Local knowledge and responsibility

Give communities a meaningful role in solutions and expect clear accountability for environmental harm.

04

Prosperity with care

Support innovation and productive use of resources where environmental limits and public responsibilities are respected.

Developing this policy properly

Built with people.
Approved properly.

Before this priority becomes final party policy, MOREHU PARTY will:

  1. Engage iwi, landowners, scientists, growers, industry and local communities.
  2. Use credible evidence while respecting mātauranga and experience on the ground.
  3. Seek solutions that are durable, understandable and fair across generations.
Policy status

This page sets out a founding priority and direction for policy development. It is not a final manifesto commitment. Detailed proposals will be consulted on, costed where required and approved through MOREHU PARTY’s proper democratic processes.
